Portrait of Jose Maria Gonzalez-Llanos Anonymous Oil on Canvas. José María González-Llanos Caruncho, born in Ferrol on June 27, 1899 and died in Maniños (Fene) on October 14, 1990, was a Galician soldier, businessman and engineer, director of Bazán, founder of FENYA and Astano. Born in a family of seafaring tradition, son of Humbelina Caruncho and Carlos González-Llanos Alesson. He entered the Navy at 14 years old. He studied at the Naval School as a midshipman in 1919. He was aboard the ships Reina Regente, Alfonso XIII, Spain and Jaime, Carlos V and Catalonia, Proserpina, and Marqués de la Victoria. He was captain of torpedo boat number 2 of the Submarine and Torpedo Flotilla based in Ferrol.
He participated in the Rif war aboard the battleship Alfonso XIII in the campaign to capture Melilla and in Tiguisas and Wed Targa, Tetuán. In 1924 and 1925 he studied to become an electrical engineer at Montefiori, University of Liège, being number one in the promotion. He studied at the Academy of Engineers of Ferrol, graduating in 1928.
In 1929 he went to work for the Spanish Naval Construction Company as head of electrical services. In 1931 he became chief engineer of the shipyard works. In 1933 he was chief engineer of the shipyard and in 1935 director in Ferrol.
With the uprising of July 18, 1936, he left office, and embarked on the Canary cruise to participate in the blockade of the Strait of Gibraltar. Before the end of the civil war he returned to the position of Director of SECN. He worked on its modernization: creation of the apprentice school, turbine factory and the foundation of FENYA and ASTANO in 1941. In 1949 he left his position in Bazán.
He was a professor at the School of Naval Engineers in Madrid from 1947 to 1961.
